The Story
I first discovered Chai lattes when I was a Ph.D. student in Germany. Years later when I started in perfumery, I was interested in spices and decided to see if I could reconstruct one of my favourite beverages. The result is a perfume version of a chai latte but more sophisticated. I am particularly proud of how the milk froth part is represented in the perfume.
Chai is a warm spicy fragrance created by Spyros Drosopoulos. The composition of the fragrance includes: cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, pepper, black tea, steamed milk, cocoa, roses, vanilla, musk and leather. The opening is spicy and milky with strong black tea in the background. The whole composition is dominated by cardamom. The pepper evaporates quite quickly. Strong and dry cinnamon appears. The whole is definitely sweetened and takes the form of sweet black tea with milk. In the background there are also: fruity rose, musk and slightly sweet and delicate leather. Chai smells like strong tea with lots of warm, creamy milk. The sweet, creamy rose, on the other hand, is delicate and smells a bit of rose jam flavored with vanilla. The whole becomes sensual thanks to the notes of leather and musk. But this is not the end, because you can still feel individual nuances and accents of cinnamon and clove.
