East by Akro, created by Olivier Cresp, takes the idea of oud and strips away all the heaviness people usually expect from it. Instead of something overly dark or complicated, East feels modern, smooth, and incredibly addictive.
The opening starts with raspberry, and it immediately changes the mood of the fragrance. It’s juicy, slightly sweet, and vibrant, creating a striking contrast against the darker notes waiting underneath. The fruitiness isn’t playful or candy-like—it feels rich, almost velvety, adding brightness without taking away from the depth.
Then the oud and leather begin to rise. The oud here feels refined and polished rather than animalic or overpowering. It has warmth, mystery, and that smoky woody richness associated with the Middle East, but everything is blended in a very wearable way. The leather adds texture and depth, giving the fragrance a darker edge while still keeping it smooth.
As it settles, ambroxan starts to dominate the drydown, giving the scent a clean, warm radiance that stays on the skin for hours. It creates this modern airy effect around the darker woods and leather, making the fragrance feel effortless rather than dense.
What makes East stand out is how it captures atmosphere without becoming too literal. There’s something about it that really does feel inspired by warm evenings, spices in the air, leather, woods, and the energy of travel itself. Rich and sensual, but still clean and contemporary.
The balance between juicy raspberry, smoky oud, soft leather, and glowing ambroxan makes this one dangerously easy to wear.
